On resuscitation and movies

It's been two years since my last 3 posts on this blog. I'm thinking of resuscitating it. Let's hope it will last longer than the first attempt. Close your eyes and pray :)

I went to the movies on Friday to watch Persepolis at sofil. Persepolis that was banned then unbanned than censored. I saw it at last, and i should say, i fully understand why they wanted to ban it. I can't imagine one sane person that watches this to still want to be liberated by the great principles of the islamic revolution. But again, i never imagined Nicolas Sarkozy had a chance with Carla. The movie was great and fun to watch. The theater was far from full, but there was a good audience that wasn't afraid to laugh when it should. Always refreshing.

Anyway, what struck me is the movies that where showing in the two Sofil theaters. In Sofil 1, it was Persepolis, a movie written by an Iranian woman now living in France that staunchly criticizes the Islamic regime in Iran. In Sofil 2, The Kite runner, a hollywoodized movie based on a book writted by an afghan living in the states bashing the now revived Islamic Taliban regime.

Repeat after me: Extremism is bad. Moderation is good.

We would have had hundreds of dead thousands wounded millions displaced billions lost, utter desolation and destruction a humanitarian catastrophe an ecological disaster, a ruined economy... Anyhow it would all had been fida el sayyed hassan.

War Quotes

Here are some quotes about war... If only they would listen.

Purpose
If you want peace, prepare for war — an ancient Roman expression

The purpose of all war is ultimately peace. — Saint Augustine

How?
Nobody ever won a war by dying for his country, he won it by making the other bastard die for his. — George S. Patton

Fatality?
So long as there are men there will be wars — Albert Einstein

On Avoid it
Sweat saves blood. — Erwin Rommel

Sound familiar?
War begins with One man's lack of Soul, Intellect and Reasoning. - William Cameron

Will power
War is over, if you want it. — John Lennon

Collateral Damage
Quand les riches se font la guerre, ce sont les pauvres qui meurent. — Jean-Paul Sartre

Blind?
Patriots always talk of dying for their country, and never of killing for their country. — Bertrand Russell

If we don't end war, war will end us. - H. G. Wells

And Finally

War is not nice. — Barbara Bush

Hypocrisy

I'm fed up with the hypocrisy of Lebanese people. The country is under attack, our society is on the brink of implosion, and all what we find to say is national unity. Who are we fooling? Why are we hiding behind behind our finger? Will national unity help us defeat Israel? Will national unity solve all our problems?
What national unity are we talking about? Should we unite against Israel? Should we unite against Someone? Should we unite against Hezbollah?
Or should we unite for Lebanon? Perhaps.. But what Lebanon? A Lebanon who is constantly fighting against superior forces? A Lebanon that believes that war is the only solution to solve our problems? A Lebanon that believes that by Naming Israel "Falastine al Mushtalla" (Literally Occupied Palestine) will make it disappear? A Lebanon that believes 3 prisoners are worth hundreds of dead?

National unity when we can't agree on a vision for the country? National unity with a multiheaded state? A state where peace is a taboo subject? A state where not talking about a problem makes it disappear?

Enough hypocrisy.. When will we have someone courageous enough to stand up for his principle. Defy laws, cross PCs, Be pragmatic
